The punk rock influenced album proved popular in the United Kingdom and, to a lesser degree elsewhere, where Britpop was a small cult phenomenon. The name is a reference to year of three events which shaped the band – the births of two members of the band, the year Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope was released, and the year the first punk albums were released, though it has been suspected that the Star Wars reference is the most important; the album opens with the sound of a TIE Fighter , and ends with the track “Darkside Lightside”, whose title is a Star Wars reference, and which also ends with a choral version of the Star Wars main theme. The band have also covered “Cantina Band”, on the “Girl From Mars” b-side . The song “Lose Control” was featured in the game Gran Turismo . It is also the first song by the band to be used in a video-game, followed by Orpheus from the album Meltdown featured in the game Burnout 3: Takedown ; both of which are racing games. The song “Kung Fu” mentions Jackie Chan in the lyrics. In reciprocation, Chan has used the song for the end credits of his movie Rumble in the Bronx . The first 50,000 pressings of the CD begins with the original version of “Jack Names the Planets ” and its B-side “Don’t Know” (February 1994) which are situated in the album’s pregap and are accessed by ‘rewinding’ from track one. There is also a hidden track named “Sick Party” which |

Dino Thompson $8.99 Greek Boy is a riotous ride through the jitterbug Jim Crow 50s, the free love 60s and the PCP bell-bottom 70s.Back when Myrtle Beach was a one juke-box, one putt-putt town. Dino’s colorful, in-your-face prose entertains and delights. He whirls you through the winds of Hurrican Hazel, his first theft, first kiss, first sexual encounter on the hood of a Willis jeep, fist fighting with a kung fu master, prowlin the boardwalk, jitterbuggin at the colored nightclubs, pool hustling and running a cafe at the age of ten. “I didn’t think it was a big whoop I grew up over a movie theater, ate all my meals in a cafe, fell asleep to merry-go-round music and the electric taste of bumper cars. Didn’t matter my best friends were carnies, gypsies, jitterbugs, gigolos, gamblers, busty waitresses, line cooks, nightclub owners and crusty old kibitzers with syrupy thick accents.”These stories, these characters jump off the page into your heart. You’ll yearn to have been there, to have know them and marvel at the way the author finds humor in the darkest or most poignant situations and catastrophes. This is a life worth living and a story worth telling. Here’s how he describes his bank-robber firend Shay Roland. “Straight nose, smooth face, square jaw. Disarmin smile with just enough dimple to open any door, pocketbook or bra hook.” |

Chapters: Kung-Fu Master, Jackie Chan Adventures, the Kung-Fu Master Jackie Chan, Jackie Chan’s Action Kung Fu, Jackie Chan Stuntmaster. Not illustrated. Excerpt: Kung-Fu Master, known in Japan as Spartan X ), is a 1984 beat ‘em up arcade game developed and published in Japan by Irem. It was later published in North America by Data East. The Japanese version was based on the movie starring Jackie Chan of one of the alternate names of the film, Wheels on Meals, and credited “Paragon Films Ltd., Towa Promotion”, who produced the film upon which it was based. The game is considered by many to be the first beat ‘em up video game, and contains elements of Bruce Lee’s Game of Death. The player takes the role of Keiji Thomas, a man in a Keikogi and slippers. Thomas’s girlfriend, Sylvia, has been kidnapped by “Mr. X”, and Thomas must fight through five side-scrolling floors full of enemies to rescue her. Brutally summarized as “rescue girlfriend hit people”, the US and UK version opens with the phrase “Thomas and Sylvia were attacked by several unknown guys….” The game was an early beat ‘em up. It is cited as one of the inspirations for subsequent successes like Double Dragon, Final Fight, Captain Commando, Streets of Rage, P.O.W.: Prisoners of War and Bad Dudes Vs. DragonNinja. Thomas can punch with the A button and kick with the B button. Either move can be done from a crouching or jumping position. Punches are worth twice as much as kicks and do twice as much damage, but their range is shorter. Screenshot of Kung-Fu Master. The first floor of the temple contains Grippers and Knife Throwers. Subsequent levels introduce Tom Toms, poisonous moths, fire-breathing dragons, snakes, and confetti balls. Each of the five floors ends with a different boss who must … More: |

Video Games Based On Dreamworks Animation Films (Study Guide) $9.34 Purchase includes free access to book updates online and a free trial membership in the publisher’s book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Chapters: Over the Hedge, Kung Fu Panda, Bee Movie Game, Flushed Away, Monsters Vs. Aliens, Shark Tale, Kung Fu Panda: Legendary Warriors. Excerpt: July 22, 2006 Over the Hedge is a platform game with stealth game elements developed by Vicarious Visions and published by Activision for the Nintendo DS handheld video game console. It was first released in North America, and was later released in Europe. The game is set immediately after the events of the DreamWorks movie Over the Hedge, unlike the console versions which follow the events of the film. Vicarious Visions is responsible for many handheld versions of licensed video games. Publisher Activision has a longstanding business relationship with animation studio DreamWorks and has exclusive global rights to publish games based on DreamWorks animated films. Gameplay involves guiding three playable woodland creatures through suburban houses to collect items and return them to their forest. House inhabitants and traps must be avoided or neutralized to succeed. The game’s plot concerns Gladys Sharp’s attempt to turn what’s left of the animals’ forest into a swimming pool; the animals try to prevent this by luring endangered species to the forest, making the forest a protected habitat. Over the Hedge received positive and average reviews from the gaming press, as well as gaming website IGN’s ‘Best Game No One Played’ award for 2006. The game was praised for the technical achievement of displaying full 3D on both of the Nintendo DS’ screens, but some reviewers found the gameplay repetitive. Verne encounters one of the inhabitants whilst exploring a house.
