The Essence of Jeet Kune Do

The Essence of Jeet Kune Do

$24.64

An invaluable guide for all practitioners of the art founded by Bruce Lee, explaining its origins in Wing Chun, boxing, and fencing, and detailing the gear and techniques needed A companion to "Jeet Kune Do: A Core Structure Training Manual," this guide examines and explains the center line theory, the mechanics of developing power and speed, advanced footwork and kicks, tactics, hand strikes, and use of the elbows, knees, and head. It presents an entire chapter each on focus gloves (the most valuable piece of training equipment), sparring, grappling, and escape on the ground. The art of Jeet Kune Do is difficult to define because its founder, Bruce Lee, wanted individuals to undertake their own journey of self-discovery and self-expression, and hated referring to his art as a style or system. However, the author captures the very essence of JKD and provides the reader with an understanding of both the roots and true development of the art, as well as advanced training concepts and progressions. A glossary is also included of the fencing terminology used in JKD.

Jeet Kune Do is the art of expressing the human body in combative form. It is not a "style" or "system" of martial art as conventionally defined. Nor is it simply an eclectic conglomeration of fighting techniques from various arts combined with philosophical dogma that is convenient. Jeet Kune Do is a rational, well thought-out approach to "total" martial art training. The Encylopedia of Jeet Kune Do is designed to serve as a resource guide, not only for the person training in Jeet Kune Do, but for any martial artist sincerely interested in enhancing his or her performance and achieving one’s full potential. Many of the principles and training methods illustrated in one section or chapter of this book can and should be cross-referenced with motions or actions in another. The goal is for you, the reader, to use this book to improve your understanding and working knowledge of the art, science, and philosophy of unarmed combat known as Jeet Kune Do. Remember, it’s not how much you absorb

Jeet Kune Do: The Arsenal of Self-Expression

Jeet Kune Do: The Arsenal of Self-Expression

$26.27

Teri Tom, the "top student" of Bruce Lee’s protege Ted Wong, returns to the world of Jeet Kune Do with her new book, "Jeet Kune Do: The Arsenal of Self-Expression." In a natural progression from her first work, "The Straight Lead," Tom takes some of the basic mechanics and strategies covered in that book and applies them to the rest of the Jeet Kune Do repertoire, filling instructional gaps found between Lee]s "Fighting Method" series and "The Tao of Jeet Kune Do"–which Lee never intended to be published as an instruction manual. Incorporating many details that Wong observed during his time with Bruce Lee, and also his own research into the how and why of Jeet Kune Do techniques, this excellent new book provides the information that connects the dots found in the "Tao of Jeet Kune Do." Those small, nuanced movements–like footwork, feinting, weight transfer and the sequencing of those elements–and how they’re used to transition from movement to movement will make all the difference in your practice of Jeet Kune Do.

For all its freedoms, Jeet Kune Do has a unique structure that must be mastered in order to present an organized defense or mount an effective counterattack. This fundamental training manual provides instructions for learning the fundamental aspects of Jeet Kune Do, including basic footwork stances, defensive and offensive techniques, kicks, and the essential on-guard position. The central principle of interception is addressed along with the five-way attack and key modes of grappling. A useful glossary of English and Chinese terminology used in Jeet Kune Do rounds out this essential reference.

A key element in the Jeet Kune Do arsenal, the straight punch is a deceptively simple technique that Bruce Lee described as the most difficult move in Jeet Kune Do- "Only one in 10,000 can handle it." "The Straight Lead" describes the development of the straight punch in Western martial arts and describes Lee’s refinement of the technique. It also offers a thorough instruction in the complexity and power of the move-showing martial artists of any discipline how to incorporate this devastating attack into their repertoire.

Descendents of the Dragon: The Next Generation of Jeet Kune Do and Beyond, Vol. 1

$31.35

Descendents of the Dragon Bruce Lee’s art of Jeet Kune Do has ridden the waves of controversy since his death in 1973. From the backyard of Dan Inosanto to the magazine pages of Black Belt and Inside Kung Fu, Jeet Kune Do has become many things to different people. From its early days of being known as Jun Fan Gung Fu to its later incarnation as ‘Jeet Kune Do’ and then ‘JKD Concepts’, ‘JKD Strategies’, ‘Combative JKD’ and ‘Original JKD’ (to mention a few) the art has continued to thrive under several different original Lee students. As time marches on and these "pointers to the truth" eventually retire or unfortunately pass on, the world of JKD is left with their students, who have become known as "Second Generation Instructors of Jeet Kune Do." Many of these second generation instructors have had the privilege of training with several of Lee’s students rather then merely obtaining one perspective on Lee’s art while a select few have chosen the path of solidarity and remain under the guidance of only one instructor of JKD. This book, Descendents of the Dragon, seeks to explore and promote the future generation of Jeet Kune Do instructors and also include instructors from the various off springs of Jeet Kune Do such as Jesse Glover’s Non-Classical Gung Fu, Joe Cowles’ Wu-Wei Gung Fu and James DeMile’s, Wing Chun Do. As a historian of Bruce Lee’s art and the life of Bruce Lee, I have chosen practitioners to interview that I feel best represent the aforementioned arts and the current state of Jeet Kune Do.

"Way of the Intercepting Fist," also "Jeet Kun Do,""JKD," or "Jeet Kuen Do") is a hybrid martial arts system and life philosophy founded by Bruce Lee in 1967 with direct, non classical and straightforward movements. Jeet Kune Do is primarily an open hand system. The system works on the use of different ‘tools’ for different situations. These situations are broken down into ranges (Kicking, Punching, Trapping and Grappling), with techniques flowing smoothly between them. Also, it is referred to as a "style without style." Unlike more traditional martial arts, Jeet Kune Do is not fixed or patterned, and is a philosophy with guiding thoughts. In 2004, the Bruce Lee Foundation decided to use the name Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do () to refer to the martial arts system that Lee founded. "Jun Fan" was Lee’s Chinese given name, so the literal translation is "Bruce Lee’s Way of the Intercepting Fist." Jeet Kune Do (JKD) is the name Bruce Lee gave to his combat system and philosophy in 1967. Originally, when Lee began researching various fighting styles, he gave his martial art his own name of Jun Fan Gung Fu. However not wanting to create another style that would share the limitations that all styles h… More: http: //booksllc.net/?id=55351
